This half-day workshop is designed to introduce scholars, students and researchers to the UN War Crimes Commission digital archive, recently acquired and made accessible by the Library. This massive archive contains a wide variety of documentation relating to the handling of war crimes by the Allied powers between 1943 and 1949, including: lists of alleged war criminals, files of charges brought against them, minutes of meetings, reports, correspondence, trial transcripts and other related materials.

For more information about the archive and to access the online catalogue record, visit http://bit.ly/UNWCCatWL and www.unwcc.org.

The Workshop
The workshop will include an in-depth introduction to the archive by Leah Owen, a presentation of a case study by Stephen Tyas, hands-on demonstration of navigating the archive with experienced researchers, and time to begin independent research in the collection. The workshop will be followed by a public evening lecture provided by CISD Director Dr Dan Plesch, who led the campaign to open the UNWCC archive for public access, and who has authored Human Rights After Hitler: The Lost History of Prosecuting Axis War Crimes.
