The cinema represents conflicts and phenomena, contemporaneous or past, in ways that not only entertain, but also contribute to integrate traumatic episodes by mass audiences, healing the culture. Cinematographic images motivate reflection and build social memory, taking part in the symbolic struggles between ideologies and discourses. The symposium calls for papers on:

- cinematographic representations of multiple and particular Latin American historical experiences, past or recent, traumatic or regenerative: Independence, imperialism, populism, popular struggles, guerrilla, democratization, globalization, migration, multiculturalism and neo -populism, among others.

- the aesthetic influences of world cinema that stimulated new ways of imagining past and present in Latin American cinema, and how it could influence filmmakers from other latitudes.

- the ideological motivations that led Latin American filmmakers to adopt these aesthetics, in particular the cosmovisions they represented.

- the transformations suffered by such aesthetics when applied in a different cultural context, what Michel Espagne defines as "cultural transfers".

- ways in which the incorporation of new forms and new ways of imagining were motivated by the circulation of people (filmmakers, producers, technicians, cultural managers), films and other materials in global circuits, festivals and through alternative distributors.

Submission of proposals from June 15 to October 20, 2017, at the Congress site.
