In response to the request of many “latecomers” the deadline for abstracts for the most important global event in Middle Eastern studies in 2018 has been extended to 31 March 2018.

Do not miss the last chance for the registration of your proposal for a paper at the World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES) in Seville on 16-20 July 2018.

The World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (WOCMES) is the biggest encounter of world experts on disciplines related to this vast region whether contemporary or ancient. The Congress takes place every four years in a different capital. The fifth edition will be organised by the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation in collaboration with the University of Seville whose headquarters will serve as the main venue for the event.

In the wake of the four previous congresses at Mainz 2002 (Germany), Amman 2006 (Jordan), Barcelona 2010 (Spain) and Ankara 2014 (Turkey), WOCMES Seville 2018 hopes to build on the success of its predecessors by offering a professional and welcoming environment based on our experience as hosts of international gatherings over the past 20 years.

WOCMES is primarily concerned with the MENA region, the Middle East and North Africa. This includes those territories once under the influence or direct control of Middle Eastern cultures or civilisations such as Al-Andalus/Sepharad, as well as those territories which are directly or indirectly affected by affairs in these areas.
