The Centre for Asia Minor Studies (CAMS) in Athens, Greece, is inviting applications for one full-time post-doctoral researcher vacancy, within the framework of the ERC-funded project HOMEACROSS. This position is opened in the context of CAMS’ collaboration with the project’s host institution, ELIAMEP (Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy). The researcher will join an interdisciplinary team under the supervision of Dr. Kalliopi Amygdalou, head of the HOMEACROSS project.

Post-Doctoral Researcher 'History, Hellenic Studies, Turkish Studies or Related Fields' (ERC HOMEACROSS, Athens)

The five-year-long research project entitled ‘Space, Memory and the Legacy of the 1923 Population Exchange between Greece and Turkey’ is funded by the European Research Council (ERC Starting Grants, Horizon 2020) and is commencing on 1 February 2021.

CONTRACT

Fixed term, starting 1 February 2021. The position is offered for three (3) years and four (4) months with the possibility of extension up to the end of the project duration.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The post-doctoral researcher will be based at the Centre for Asia Minor Studies (CAMS) in Athens, Greece for three years and four months. Should the contract be extended, the researcher would then move to the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (Athens, Greece) for the remaining period. Main responsibilities include:

- Archival research at CAMS and other relevant archives and libraries in Greece and Turkey.
- Translations and transliterations of Ottoman documents.
- Literature review, writing and analysis
- Participation in the organization of the dissemination activities of the project,
- Participation in team meetings, publications and conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

1. PhD in History, Hellenic studies, Turkish studies, Ottoman studies or other relevant field (awarded after January 2014 and before February 2021).
2. Excellent written and oral communications skills in Greek, Turkish and English. Very good knowledge of Ottoman paleography.
3. Strong organisational, research and writing skills; previous research experience on relevant topics.
