HEIRS - History of European Integration Research Society is a postgraduate research network designed to foster the work of postgraduate researchers across Europe with an interest in European integration history. It aims to provide academic exchange, training and learning programmes which will build on the work of existing academic institutions and bodies in the field, and will draw in a wide range of postgraduate students to focus on the political, diplomatic, economic, cultural and other aspects of European integration.

The core operation behind HEIRS is based at the Centre of International Studies and Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence, University of Cambridge, while postgraduates and academics from across Europe will play a full part in its work through regular colloquia, its website and full participation in other initiatives fostering information exchange and cooperation.

HEIRS is grounded on the observation that many of the limitations to research in the field are compounded by limits to exchange between universities and across national boundaries. It will therefore work in association with as broad a range of partners as possible.

Interaction and Research:

We hope to achieve an intensive online discussion forum run by postgraduate students. Supervisors are cordially invited to join. The forum should enable lively exchange of experience and know how, update on research and any other information, as may be relevant to the research into the history of European integration. The online forum will be available shortly.

The research overview offers a database of the current postgraduate research work and available opportunities in the field of history of European integration. To join the database, please contact the HEIRS Founding Committee.

HEIRS WILL BE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED ON THE 6TH AND 7TH NOVEMBER 2004 WITH THE FIRST HEIRS COLLOQUIUM TO BE HELD AT CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY
