Destination Disaster: Failed Tourism Adventures and Other Dark Passages in Latin American and Caribean Travel History

Inspired by an increasingly critical consciousness (and developing literature) concerned with ongoing social injustice and ecological damage wrought by tourism, we are seeking chapter proposals for an edited historical volume on "failed" travel industry endeavors in Latin America and the Caribbean. Possibilities could include discussion of any number of problematic past and ultimately crashed/broken/abandoned projects that somehow went wrong for a complex assortment of economic, social-cultural, political and/or environmental reasons.

Interested scholars please send a short proposal to: Andrew Grant Wood (andrew-wood@utulsa.edu) indicating subject, argument and research sources by December 1, 2021.

Initial invited chapter drafts will subsequently come due May 31, 2022.
