The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies is seeking to recruit an Associate Professor of International History. Candidates must hold a PhD in history. They must have an outstanding teaching and research track record in international history and be able to make a significant long-term contribution to their specialisation field, “Europe and the World”.

The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva, Switzerland invites applications for a tenure track full-time position at the rank of ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR of INTERNATIONAL HISTORY with a specialisation in “Europe and the World” starting on 1 January 2022 or on a mutually agreed-upon date.

The selected candidate must show an openness to comparative analyses and an interest in innovating from a methodological point of view. We are particularly interested in research profiles foregrounding dimensions of race, coloniality and indigeneity related to the study of Europe and the world. The ability to work with colleagues from the other disciplines researched and taught at the Institute will be an
asset.

The successful candidate will teach postgraduate courses and supervise master’s theses and doctoral dissertations in the Department of International History. She or he will be called upon to teach classes and supervise master’s theses in the Graduate
Institute’s interdisciplinary programmes.

The teaching language is either English or French. Prior knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire at least a passive knowledge of it within two years of being hired.
