The Duke University Middle East Studies Center (DUMESC) and the Department of History at Duke University invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the History of the Modern Middle East and North Africa in 2024-25, with a possible renewal for a second year, 2025-26. We seek candidates with broad knowledge of the history of the region in its global context. Duties include teaching and research. It is also expected that the Fellow will become an active member of DUMESC and engage in the intellectual life of the History Department.
Teaching experience is a must. The successful candidate will teach one introductory lecture course on the Modern Middle East in the fall of 2024, and a gateway or advanced undergraduate seminar in the Spring of 2025. The same two courses may be repeated the following year.

Additional materials may be requested of finalists. A PhD is required. Applicants must have successfully defended their dissertation by June 30, 2024. This position is not eligible for third-year renewal.
