The School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Central Asia is inviting young researchers to apply for the Summer School "Modernity in Central Asia: Identity, Society, Environment". The Summer School will take place at UCA’s Naryn campus, Kyrgyz Republic, from 19 August to 25 August 2024.

Modernity in Central Asia: Identity, Society, Environment

The programme is built around the developing research agenda of comparative historical sociology and includes topics such as current approaches to sociology of modernity; comparative sociology of empires; post-imperial and post-colonial perspectives in research on Central Asia. In addition to the theoretical block, the programme offers a range of activities such as masterclasses and field trips to help participants to hone their practical skills in research methods and field research in Central Asia.

The participants will have an opportunity to present their current research projects and get feedback from their peers and from the school resource persons. Online participation will not be considered because both resource persons and participants should be present on site to facilitate lively academic exchanges.

Funding
UCA will organise a transfer for the participants (Bishkek-Naryn-Bishkek) and will provide accommodation on its campus in Naryn. The participants will have to cover their travel to/from Bishkek and their own meals.

Eligibility
PhD students and early career postdoc researchers are eligible. Promising Master students may be considered if they provide the support letter from their supervisors.
