Interdisciplinary 5-Week MOOC: Examining African Contributions to Global Health

Africa has always been a site of medical innovation but for too long this has not been adequately acknowledged and examined. This interdisciplinary five-week Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) was created by the team members of the Sinergia Project "African Contributions to Global Health" (www.globalhealthafrica.ch). Videos and podcasts that show how the continent has contributed to Global Health practices take you to Mali, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, and Zambia. And in many different steps, you will encounter examples from various other parts of Africa. The course offers you a unique Africanist perspective and insights into different disciplines such as public health, urban planning, and history. Learners acquaint themselves with various tools, methodologies, and theories and benefit from experts at the Swiss Tropical Health Institute (www.swisstph.ch/en/), the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (www.epfl.ch/en/), the Department of History at the University of Basel (https://dg.philhist.unibas.ch/en/) and experts interviewed in various African countries. Thereby, learners familiarise themselves with innovations that benefit public health not only in Africa but in other parts of the world as well as globally. The open online course is now available and will be led by members and partners of the Sinergia team between 28 February and 1 April.

After your registration, you will have 7 weeks of free access. It can be accessed here: https://futurelearn.com/courses/african-contributions-to-global-health
