Vernon Press invites book chapter proposals to be included in a forthcoming edited volume, "Global Humanities: Transit, Transition, and Translation."
As the world turns toward increased cultural and commercial integration, it is not clear that the humanities curriculum is sufficiently equipped to engage a global turn in higher education. How does an area traditionally associated with male-dominant continental thought and often esoteric scholarly directions maintain its foothold in an academy that is increasingly obsessed with branding itself as globally engaged? As a contribution to this global turn, the chapters contained in this volume critically examine structures that create arbitrary divisions and power hierarchies, including the dominance of English literature and language in the curriculum and in the global literary market. In addition to these and other power structures, we examine the many faces of the cultural other in humanities arts and letters, curriculum, and pedagogies.
Areas of specialization include but are not limited to:
- Translation studies
- Comparative literature
- Cultural studies
- Philosophy
- (Applied) linguistics
- Psychoanalytic studies
- Educational research
